Minister of Family Life
Pastor Cynthia is a native of Nashville, TN. She was educated in the Davidson County public school system. After graduating from high school, she matriculated to Fisk University, completing her course of study with a B.A. in Political Science. In 1991, Cynthia received a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA, with concentration in Church Administration, Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics.
In 1992, Pastor Cynthia began an internship at the Saint Elizabeth’s Mental Health Hospital, in Washington, DC, completing three intense years of Clinical Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education, working in mental health areas ranging from acute mental illness to criminally insane. Pastor Cynthia further prepared herself by entering and completing the program to become a Certified Therapeutic Adoptive and Foster Care Parent and consultant. Pastor Cynthia holds ordination in both the United Church of Christ and the Missionary Baptist Church denominations. In 2002, she was ordained and consecrated an Elder in the Apostolic Church.
Pastor Cynthia has been a ground breaker for several ministerial positions and experiences. She was the first female to be licensed to preach at the Fountain of Faith Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. Pastor Cynthia was first female Assistant Pastor to serve at the Lincoln Temple Church in Washington, DC. She and her husband were the first African American Co-Pastors with equal status in the pulpit to Pastor the Heritage Fellowship Church in Reston, VA. She has also served as Staff Minister at the following churches: The University Park Baptist Church (the Park Ministries), Charlotte, NC, Bishop Claude Richard Alexander; Transformation Ministries, Baltimore, MD, Bishop Monroe R. Sanders; The Bronx Christian Fellowship, Bronx, NY, Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook, and the Greater Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC, Bishop A.L. Jinwright. Pastor Cynthia was the first female Staff Pastor and currently serves as Pastor of Family Life and Executive Director of Samaritan Ministries at The Temple Church, Nashville, TN, under the leadership of Darrell A. Drumwright, Senior Pastor.
Pastor Cynthia is a planner, developer and implementer of church programs and community projects. Her experience as a minister is vast, her passion deep and her commitment unquestionable. Pastor Cynthia has served on many boards and numerous committees. Presently, she serves on the Samaritan Ministries Board of Directors and the Board of Governors for NANOE (National Association Nonprofit Organizations &Executives).
Pastor Cynthia loves music. As a musician, she was a member of the Fisk University Jazz ensemble and as a vocalist, she performed and ministered with many gospel choirs as well as holding membership with the renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Pastor Cynthia is the mother of one son and grandmother of two girls.
